About the Program
Phlebotomists play an important role in the medical field through the collection of blood and other patient samples for medical testing and diagnosis, as well as for donation to blood banks.
Become a phlebotomist with Moraine Park’s two-course technical diploma, which prepares individuals to collect blood specimens via venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures for the purposes of laboratory analysis.
Program graduates have the opportunity to continue their education through a direct pathway into the Medical Laboratory Technician associate’s degree.
What You’ll Learn
The phlebotomist courses are taken in sequence over one semester and give students a basic understanding of laboratory equipment, as well as medical terminology. The first course, Basic Lab Skills, explores laboratory science career options and the fundamental principles and procedures performed in the laboratory. The second course, Phlebotomy, provides opportunities for students to perform routine venipuncture, routine capillary puncture and special collection procedures.
