Introduces basic natural gas theory. Students will gain an understanding of and apply safety standards in the natural gas industry through review of OSHA standards and CDL preparation. Also introduces tools and equipment used during underground construction methods.
Introduces regulation stations and gas distribution systems. Students will apply locating and marking procedures and maintain record keeping of natural gas mapping systems. Introduces various methods to join, install and maintain plastic pipes. Students will perform procedures to investigate gas leaks and abandon mains and services. (Prerequisite: 469-311 Gas Utility Field Training 1)
Introduces natural gas standards for steel main distribution systems, steel main fittings, odorizing natural gas and preventing corrosion. Students will perform steel main repair, system uprating, and apply welding safety techniques to welding processes. Applies customer service and propane industry standards to residential operations. (Prerequisite: 469-320 Gas Utility Field Training 2)
Examines combustion created by the interaction of fuels and oxidants. Explores how common gas appliances and space heating equipment operate, as well as the safety requirements and codes that govern their use. Students become familiar with steel and plastic pipe destructive testing to reinforce concepts associated with the methods used to qualify field employees who perform pipe joining activities. (Prerequisite: 469-331 Gas Utility Field Training 3)
Covers curriculum for OSHA 10 construction. Upon successful completion, students will obtain an OSHA 10 card.
Provides advanced safety training and topics specific to the utility industry. Develops critical thinking skills to support a preventative safety culture. Teaches methods to minimize both human error and physical hazards. Includes worksite analysis, ethical risk management, and flammable liquids/hazardous materials emergency planning and response. (Prerequisite: 469-347 Safety Applications for Utilities 1)
