Policy AP 720: Title VI
This policy applies to the success and equitable practices for all students with limited English proficiency (LEP) speaking skills. In addition to this policy is a language access plan (LAP). The policy will outline the importance of resources made available to students by reducing language as a barrier to academic success.
Moraine Park Technical College works to create inclusive spaces for our students and the community by identifying language as a potential barrier to the recruitment, admission and retention of our students and their families. The policy is a guide to ensure we are providing an equitable experience for LEP students and families using interpreters, translators, Language Access tool and literature and videos in languages other than English. In addition to a Language Access Plan, the college has designated a LEP Coordinator to work with all departments to ensure practices are being followed and supports are in place.
The purpose of this policy is to outline equitable resources for students whose native language is not English and reduce barriers non-proficient English-speaking students face. Title VI is part of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, 45 C.F.R. Section 80.3(b)(2), require recipients of Federal financial assistance to take reasonable steps to provide meaningful access to Limited English Proficient (LEP) persons.
