What Accreditation Means to Students
When you attend an accredited college or university, you can expect:
- A Quality Education: Accreditation means that a college, university, institution or program meets standards of quality for faculty, curriculum, administration, library, financial management and student services.
- Financial Aid Opportunities: You can only obtain federal financial assistance if your college or university has appropriate accreditation from an organization recognized by the United States Department of Education.
- Credits that Transfer: If you ever want to transfer your college credits to continue your education, accreditation is an important factor when a college or university is deciding whether to accept transfer credits from your previous school.
Higher Learning Commission and the Open Pathway
The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) is an independent institutional accreditation agency that accredits degree-granting colleges and universities based in the United States. Institutional accreditation validates the quality of an institution as a whole and evaluates multiple aspects of an institution, including its academic offerings, governance and administration, mission, finances, and resources. HLC accreditation includes all degree levels as well as on-site and online course delivery.
Moraine Park Technical College participates in HLC’s Open Pathway, a 10-year cycle that promotes quality assurance, institutional improvement, and compliance. The Commission conducts a comprehensive evaluation and site visit in the Year 10 of the Open Pathway. MPTC’s next comprehensive evaluation will occur in 2033-34. Learn more at Higher Learning Commission or view the HLC Complaint Process.
