Become a phlebotomy technician in less than a year with a certificate from Moraine Park Technical College.
About the Program
Phlebotomists play an important role in the medical field through the collection of blood and other patient samples for medical testing and diagnosis, as well as for donation to blood banks.
Become a phlebotomist with Moraine Park’s two-course certificate, which prepares individuals to collect blood specimens via venipuncture and capillary puncture procedures for the purposes of laboratory analysis.
Upon completion of the certificate, students may take the national certification examination offered by the Board of Certification.
Important Note: Official proof of high school graduation or GED completion is required to take the licensure exam.
What You’ll Learn
The phlebotomy courses are taken in sequence over two semesters and give students a basic understanding of laboratory equipment, as well as medical terminology. The first course, Phlebotomy Essentials, provides students with theory, safety techniques and regulations, infection control, and procedural applications and training. The second course, Phlebotomy Clinical, places students at clinical sites. Travel is required for clinical sites; clinical times may vary.

Students who enroll in this certificate must complete the series of three hepatitis B immunizations and be 18 years of age or older in order to begin the phlebotomy courses.
